My Three Moms

Mama is in the middle. Boston’s Mama, Bird, on the left. My aunt Nene on the right.
It’s always interesting to look at this picture and really feel that these three women in some way, shape, and form have all formed a collective whole in order to raise the man that I am now.
There’s just no way that I could ever repay the three of them.
Mamabird has at times, especially when I was a 22 yr old father, had to raise BOTH my son and I, and Birdy, our relationship has taught me the most exact perfectness of “no matter what”. It’s you and I till the very very end. While others flow in and out, and hopefully shape us and love us further, I want you to hear me when I say I will do anything I can to keep you safe for as long as I live. Even though it’s been almost 15 years now since we broke up, I will always know the meaning of “till death do us part”.
And for Aunt Nene, you have always been there for me, and I certainly understand that a huge part of my ability to be gracious and tolerant of others is from your example.

I can’t ever, in a million years even try to articulate the amount of gratitude I have for you.
As a single mother with two kids under the age of 4 yrs old, and almost no where to go, it’s unimagineable to me the amount of strength, courage, and depth of weight it took.
I am truly humbled by you.

I say all this because it’s Easter, and in the last decade my mother became a Christian.

If you read this blog regularly, you know I ride the Christian right pretty hard.

But today, Mom, I want you to know specifically, and I don’t care if one other person gets this or not.

Mom, you are the very best example of Christianity that I know of. Through your tireless efforts in service through “Him” you set a daily tone of grace, tolerance and patience that supercedes your other astonishing qualities.
Time and time again, you have allowed me my own opinions, as my own man, and you haven’t once told me I couldn’t or even shouldn’t have an opinion.
I want you to know that it hasn’t gone unnoticed and it’s this example of “attraction rather than promotion”, that has forced ME to take a closer look, and see clearly that there are millions of Christians everywhere that practice their religion in a way that is so very valuable and helpful to their respective communities.
The world is absolutely a better place because of the teachings of God, mom. I know this, partly through you and Nen’s example.

I’m proud to be the son of a Christian.

I love you, and HAPPY EASTER

P.S. I will be nowhere NEAR a church today, as Tiger makes a run at the Masters from a deep hole. I will be in bed, enjoyin MY favorite Easter treat, the ear of a chocolate bunny. My God is totally down with this. Again, I love you, and feel free to have my wafer at mass.
